HAVANA TIMES – On February 21, 2025, the first solar photovoltaic park was inaugurated, with a capacity of 21. The project, located in Cotorro—on the outskirts of Havana—is part of the island’s government’s bet on solar energy to address the country’s dire electricity. Cuba on Friday unveiled a new solar-powered electricity park in the capital Havana, the first in an ambitious project to alleviate the island’s increasingly desperate struggle with power blackouts. These Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), also referred to as "concentrator units," are being placed at Cueto 220, Bayamo. 87 MW, located in the central province of Sancti Spíritus, began operations after just over two months of installation.
