Introduction
Abstract—This paper presents a physics-based steady-state equivalent circuit model of a two-stage bidirectional inverter. These inverters connect distributed energy resources (DERs), such as photovoltaic (PV) and battery systems, to distribution grids. Most solar owners don’t know it, but bidirectional inverter technology is invaluable to making solar energy as reliable as traditional fossil fuels. In the past decade, we have seen the fastest proliferation of solar adoptions worldwide across different sectors.
