Introduction
Accumulator: A pressure vessel in a hydraulic system in which hydraulic fluid is stored under nitrogen gas pressure, serving as a rapid source of hydraulic power when needed (fast shot, die close and core operations). Newer systems typically use piston type accumulators which separates the nitrogen. By opening the shot valve, the drive piston of the casting unit is charged with pressure moving the casting piston in the shot chamber. The capability of a metal surface to resist wear when mechanical abrasion is applied to it.
