Introduction

Thermal mechanical long-term storage is an innovative energy storage technology that utilizes thermodynamics to store electrical energy as thermal energy for extended periods. This technology strategy assessment on compressed air energy storage (CAES), released as part of the Long-Duration Storage Shot, contains the findings from the Storage Innovations (SI) 2030 strategic initiative. The objective of SI 2030 is to develop specific and quantifiable research, development. A cavity underground,capable of sustaining the required pressure as well as being a rtight can be utilised for this energy storage application.
