Introduction

These rules aim to reduce fire risks, promote eco-friendly disposal, and ensure compatibility with modern RV electrical systems. This document offers a curated overview of the relevant codes and standards (C+S) governing the safe deployment of utility-scale battery energy storage. Provisions appropriate to the battery technology shall be made for sufficient diffusion and ventilation of gases from the battery, if present, to prevent the accumulation of an explosive mixture. Manufacturers of off-grid capable travel trailers have been installing roof-mounted solar panels for years, along with deep-cycle batteries to take the charge and handle the electrical load that comes with extended camping time while unplugged.
